I do not mind sitting here in my laptop computer as well as doing nothing but being amazed at how excellent and wonderful this web site of yours is actually. There has no other site that will keep me personally glued for quite a while apart from yours. Please continue the good work!

so true how social conditioning affects culture like that.

"The important thing is to understand that shared beliefs encourage rapport. When you run into a belief that strongly contradicts your own, you are most likely to reject the person who holds them as being stupid or crazy. But, of course, our own beliefs aren’t stupid or crazy. Are they?"
spot on. and interesting observation about how we associate others ideas with who they are.

really enjoyed that article. and definitely agree that the more you can build rapport and relate to people, the more persuasive you can be.

stumbled!!

all the best
alex - unleash reality

Thanks! Yeah, when people say stuff about "this is how it's done in my culture...etc." it's an immediate turn off. Good point!

Yes Kumar, you are right. While reading this post, section "How culture affects communication", I just remembered some people who usually use their "cultural saying" when they are negotiating with others. For instance, I have met a lot of people from different cultures who tend to say..."you know, in our culture there is a common saying or proverb which says bla bla bla". And what they tell me, is not necessarily what I belive. I just nod my head to show appreciation when I met these situations

Good post anyway, keep up the good work

I'm glad you get it. Focus on the person in front of you and you'll most definitely notice a change.

Yep! What other people do is not about you, but it has always been about them. I remember reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz; the second agreement says not to take everything personally because its not really about you, its really about them.

I know some people like me had always been affected by the people around me. I always ask what's wrong with me? why are they doing this? Do I need to change? Well, these questions will always put us into a life of low confidence and self-esteem which will affect every aspect of our life.

As you said in your post, "It’s not about you, it’s about the person in front of you."

Thank you Tess! I really enjoy your commentary. One should believe whatever they want to believe, but one should understand in order for rapport to be created, one must believe what other believe. As long as your intentions are not trickery, then you are in the clear. Hopefully that made sense, let me know if you want me to clarify. :)

I was raised Catholic and attended parochial school for 10 years.

I am not practicing today. To this day I think I'm a wonderful person because of Catholism and it's influence on me. However I also dropped what I didn't agree with ie, GUILT and that has helped as well.
Great post!
